Available Topics

Maximizing PH Care Using Risk Assessment to Improve Outcomes

Learning Objectives
  • Discuss the importance of periodic risk assessment for PAH
  • Debate the expansion of risk stratification in PAH from 3 to 4 levels
  • Review the goals of PAH therapy and the potential application of triple combination therapy to achieve low-risk status in the PAH patient
  • Discuss the balance between more advanced and aggressive therapeutic approaches and the trade-off of greater side effects
  • Evaluate the criteria for referring advanced PAH patients for lung transplantation when even advanced therapeutic strategies fail to progress the patient towards low-risk status

Underserved PAH Populations: Why Don’t We Connect?

Learning Objectives
  • Define the underserved PAH population and the socioeconomic determinants of care and access to care
  • Examine the use of remote monitoring and patient evaluation technologies and strategies
  • Discuss potential solutions to maintaining access of PAH patients to specialty care
  • Discuss barriers to PAH patient identification and care that reside within current health care systems

Sleuthing Unexplained Dyspnea: Diagnostic Tools

Learning Objectives
  • Review the potential causes of unexplained dyspnea and the implications of delayed diagnosis of underlying causes as they pertain to pulmonary hypertension
  • Discuss collaborative diagnostic roles of the community physician and the PH specialty center in determining the potential presence of pulmonary hypertension and the need for expedient referral to the specialty centeric work-up
  • Compare and contrast the diagnostic tools available to determine the presence, cause and severity of pulmonary hypertension and newer diagnostic modalities that are influencing the diagnostic process
  • Review the necessary diagnostic values and implications needed to create an “index of suspicion” that pulmonary hypertension is at the core of a patient’s unexplained dyspnea

Addressing PH Subtypes: Raising Awareness of Understudied Populations

Learning Objectives
  • Review characteristics of PH patient groups that fall outside of the idiopathic category
  • Discuss the screening, diagnosis, and expedient referral of non-idiopathic patients to PH specialty centers from community generalists and specialty healthcare providers
  • Focus on understudied PH groups that require special diagnostic attention by all healthcare providers
  • Review treatment and management approaches to understudied PH patients

Pre-work Program/ Post-work Quiz

Live events utilize a closed-loop learning experience by providing pre-work programs and post-work quizzes to accompany the lecture events to ensure attendees of the lectures retain concepts taught. The flipped classroom pre-work episodes are developed specifically to introduce key information which may be applied during the live event and encourage engagement between the attendee and faculty. Pre-work is presented by expert faculty in several short, educational episodes. Post-work quizzes allow attendees to revisit topics for a better long-term retention and test their knowledge on concepts taught at the lecture.

Compliance with Sunshine Act

The National Physician Payment Transparency Program (Sunshine Act) is a section of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 that requires pharmaceutical and medical device companies to report to the Federal government certain payments (e.g. meals and other meeting expenses) they make to physicians and teaching hospitals. IMPACT PH programs fully comply with the Sunshine Act and, as a result, payments may be reportable based upon these requirements. For detailed information, please visit:
